Jiko Oven Project
Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”
We believe that as Christians we need to actively support, help, and share in the heavy struggles – whether emotional, spiritual, or physical of others within a community. This act of sacrificial love and mutual support is the fulfillment of Christ’s command to love one another.
As we lean into helping the widows and orphans, the one thing we have grown to know is that if we provide them with a skill, something of value to their own lives as well as something they can help others with – we will create a community of hands and feet of Jesus.
We have given a group of widows a unique “Jiko or Oven” that they are beginning to learn how to bake bread and other things that will nourish their bodies and souls. MBG has connected with local bakers who willingly give their time to help teach the art and skill of baking. As we progress through this process – we see the benefit of an oven and the skill that empowers each woman who stands behind it.
Our goal is to get more ovens in the community for more of our widows. We are encouraging them to write us a letter expressing their interest and desire to learn. We then meet with them and discern if this is a perfect fit. The investment in the oven itself, the supplies and training are approximately $800.00 usd.
We have provided one oven (2026) to a group of 4 widows who live in a compound together. This will be a great opportunity for all of them to learn and grow together. We have another oven with a disability center for children where they make bread daily. It has proven to be a great resource for this center.
The requests continue to pour in, and we pray for your desire to support this project.
