Sara's Project
James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefined before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world”
This verse has defined what MBG has done from its inception. It defines true, practical faith not by ritual, but by caring for the most vulnerable. Widows in the communities in which we serve typically come from the Maasai culture. In this culture, when one man marries, he can marry as many women as he chooses. The difficulty in this lifestyle is that brother(s) or depart from the family completely. Most choose to leave, which makes them vulnerable. These women marry young, and most have missed being educated. This leaves them to take on menial work (wood picking, washing clothes or picking weeds for farmers) They struggle to get their children to school and church. It is a tremendous strain on these women, and most suffer greatly.
We have cared for many women through monthly sponsorship opportunities throughout the years. We have been active in providing more for them so they can sustain themselves in small business. We have grown to understand that each woman in this tribe knows how to take care of animals. They love goats, chickens and cows. By providing a widow with an animal, they can begin to find hope to take care of themselves and their children.
Sara’s project was created when we began helping a widow who was caring for her disabled son but living in the worst conditions. Her mud hut was crumbling but she remained faithful that she would manage as her Mom told her before she passed away: “Sara – never stop caring for others, even if you are without, do what you can with a smile and love in your heart and your prayers will be heard”
When you donate to this project through MBG, we identify widows in need and help them with the following:
- Monthly food supplies (if this is the greatest need for that woman) ($25)
- Gift of a cow ($150), goat ($50) or chicken ($10)
- Gift of a sewing machine ($200)
- Gift of home supplies, farming tools, other larger needs ($100 and up)
Your gift of any amount will help a special widow and her children to see the light of Jesus. We pray your heart will be open to one of the opportunities we have for them.
